Sweetheart Dinner

You are invited to attend our annual "Sweetheart Dinner" at the Raleigh County Senior Center on February 10, 2012 form 4PM to 6PM.  We will be having entertainment and dinner.  We will provide transportation for those who need it.  Grab your sweetheart and make plans to attend.  We will be hosting for 120 attendees.  Registration begins on January 23 and will end on February 3 unless we fill up before then!

Admission:

$5.00 per personTransportation will be $3.00 in addition to regular admission.

Seating is limited to 120 participants FULL .  Registration will begin on January 23, 2012 and continue until February 3 or until seating runs out, whichever comes first!  Registration will be conducted at the Raleigh County Senior Center on 1614 South Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV.  For more information please contact Crystal Coleman at (304) 255-1397 ext. 119.

Valentine's Day Party

We will be having our annual Valentine's Day Party on February 14, 2012 from 11:30 AM till 12:00 PM at the Raleigh County Senior Center.  Join us for the coronation of the Valentine King and Queen on this illustrous day (or just come and have a great time!).

Movie Day at the Senior Center

Please join us as we celebrate Dr. King's life and accomplishments with a small program on Thursday, January 12, 2012.  We hope you'll enjoy the program.

Movies are yet to be determined but we will be showing them on February 28, March 27 and April 17,2012.  For those who need transportation we will bring you to the center for the lunch program and you can watch the movie after lunch, we will provide transportation home.

Compassionate Caregiver Conference

Once again, Hospice of Southern WV and the Raleigh County Commission on Aging present the annual Compassionate Caregiver Conference. The conference is open to caregivers, professional providers who serve the elderly and their caregivers, or any community member interested in attending.

Registration, lunch and refreshments will be provided for free. Continuing education units (CEUs) will be provided for free to nurses and social workers. This event has been approved for 6.5 CEUs for social workers and nurses.

This year's keynote speaker, Douglas C Smith, MA, MS, MDiv, is an author of several books and has given over 1,000 presentations in all 50 states and all the provinces of Canada. His workshop Caring for People in the Final Phases of Life will look at the way we care for the needs and rights of the dying. Topics covered will include: The Right to Touch and Be Touched, The Right to Have a Sense of Purpose, The Right to Have One's Beliefs and Values Respected, The Right to Be Angry and In Denial, The Right to Laugh, and The Right to Hear the Truth.

Vendor spaces and sponsorships are still available.

United States History Class
Begins November 18, 2011

We will be starting a new series of classes teaching American History.  The class is taught by Mary Bowyer and will take place on Fridays at 10:30 for 20 sessions. 

We would like anyone interested in attending the class to be present on the first day, November 18, 2011 @ 10:30 AM, for registration.  All classes will be conducted in the auxilliary room at the back of the Dining Room in the Beckley Senior Center at 1614 South Kanawha Street, Beckley.

Attendees can then attend on any Friday at 10:30 for any class that they desire. (*see note at bottom of class schedule!)
