Traditionally, West Virginia's frail and elderly or chronically disabled have been confined to nursing homes or other
institutional care facilities because home based care options were not available. Significant changes have occurred
so that today, for many of our citizens, high quality care is available outside of nursing homes and other institutions.
The Medicaid Waiver Program is a Medicaid reimbursed program that provides an alternative to institutional care.
The purpose of this program for the elderly and/or disabled is to provide a comprehensive approach to home based health care
services. Individuals are allowed independence in their homes with support from trained professionals.
